چکیده

This paper describes a 12-bit 100kS/s successive approximation register analog-todigital converter (SAR ADC) for biomedical system. Both top-plate sampling technique and VCM-based switching technique are applied to the capacitor digital-to-analog converter (CDAC) to implement a 12-bit SAR ADC with 10-b capacitor array DAC. To enhance the linearity of proposed ADC, thermometer decoder is used in capacitor array DAC. Switching-energy minimization technique, asynchronous control with a low-power delay circuit and true single phase clocking (TSPC) D_FF are also adopted to reduce power consumption. Simulation results show that the proposed ADC achieves the SNDR of 70.97dB, the SDFR of 80.23dB and the ENOB of 11.49b with the CMOS 0.18m technology. Total power consumption is 11.16W under the supply voltage of 1.8V at the sampling frequency of 100 kHz. And the figure of merit (FoM) is 38.79fJ/conversionsteps.

Low-Power Architectures and Self-Calibration Techniques of DAC for SAR-ADC implementation

SAR-ADC is best suited for low power applications where power has a trade-off with speed. Use of redundant circuitry reduces the on chip area making it cost effective. DAC is one of the components of SAR-ADC that introduces error voltage due to mismatch and consumes large power other than comparator. Low power DAC architectures have been studied and analysed. To account for capacitor mismatch i...

A 12 bit 40 MSPS SAR ADC with a redundancy algorithm and digital calibration for the ATLAS LAr calorimeter readout

We present a SAR ADC with a generalized redundant search algorithm offering the flexibility to relax the requirements on the DAC settling time. The redundancy also allows a digital background calibration, based on a code density analysis, to compensate the capacitor mismatch effects. The total number of capacitors used in this architecture is limited to a half of the one in a classical SAR desi...

A Fast Multiple Sampling Method for Low-Noise CMOS Image Sensors With Column-Parallel 12-bit SAR ADCs

This paper presents a fast multiple sampling method for low-noise CMOS image sensor (CIS) applications with column-parallel successive approximation register analog-to-digital converters (SAR ADCs). The 12-bit SAR ADC using the proposed multiple sampling method decreases the A/D conversion time by repeatedly converting a pixel output to 4-bit after the first 12-bit A/D conversion, reducing nois...
